According to estimates, 12 leopards died in vehicle accidents in the past five years, while 25 died due to natural causes.
Lucknow District Forest Officer Dr Ravi Kumar Singh said, “The carcass was found by police. We were informed by around 6 am about the injuries. The range officer went to the spot. We think that the animal strayed off its natural habitat in the nearby forests in Mohanlalganj or Barabanki.”
A leopard was found dead with its claws missing in a forest in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Friday, a forest official said.
The death of the leopard is likely due to a collision with a vehicle because the four-lane road is barely 80 metres away from the spot where the carcass was found.
