SCV News | Thursday COVID-19 Roundup: L.A. County Readies for Less Restrictive Tier; SCV Cases Total 27,691


The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed Thursday 42 new deaths and 416 new cases of COVID-19, with 27,691 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley.
To date, Public Health identified 1,232,727 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 23,872 deaths.
Thirty-one deaths are cases newly identified as COVID-19 deaths that occurred 4-12 months ago. Of the 42 new deaths reported Thursday, 17 people that passed away were over the age of 80, 15 people who died were between the ages of 65 and 79, seven people who died were between the ages of 50 and 64, and one person who died was between the ages of 30 and 49. Two deaths were reported by the city of Long Beach. ....

Firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire in the Valencia Hills neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The call came out shortly after 6:30 a.m. on the 25500 block of Via Brava in Valencia, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Franklin Lopez.
Units arriving on the scene found flames and smoke showing from one room in a single-family residence, Lopez said.
Not even 10 minutes later, firefighters called knock down of the blaze, preventing it from spreading into other areas of the house, Lopez added.
One woman was transported to the hospital following the incident for unknown reasons.

Orange County inches closer to moving into less-restrictive red tier, but more improvements still needed


Orange County is counting on its community partners to vaccinate Latino seniors most vulnerable to COVID-19 and address immunization disparities.
Of the 40 deaths reported Tuesday, two were skilled nursing facility residents and five were assisted living facility residents, raising those totals to 902 and 406, respectively.
The death reports are staggered because they come from a variety of sources and are not always logged immediately.
The death toll for January now stands at 1,040, surpassing the previous record for December, with 859 deaths logged for that month. That means that 52% of the county s death toll since the first fatality on March 19, 2020, occurred during those two months. ....
