After watching their daughter struggle to buy a home, McConnochie and McGrath knew how hard it was for first-time buyers. So when the time came sell their Appleby home, they decided to sell it to first-home buyers in a private sale. A former lawyer, McConnochie had helped others buy and sell privately. But you don’t need specialist knowledge, she’d seen people from all walks of life navigate sales, including a woman in her 90s, she said. Braden Fastier/Stuff Fiona McConnochie and Graeme McGrath said there were ups and downs to selling privately, but overall it was a positive experience.
