The Alaska wildfire season is reportedly setting records. The state saw the driest May to June on record, according to the Anchorage National Weather Service.
Alaska is on track to exceed the total acreage burned in the record 2004 fire season, when more than 6 million acres went up in flames. More than 225 fires are currently blazing in the state.
A Southwest Alaska wildfire has burned through the site of a support camp for the Pebble Mine project as the state’s wildfire season remains on pace to be one of the worst on record.
Approximately 5,800 power outages were registered in Alaska and its adjacent regions on Saturday, with further forecast in the days that followed.
