Into a project that was fundamentally flawed, it took a number of days for the afghan forces to disappear and wasting a lot of lives. that is one thing. and looking forward to the future of afghanistan, i think it will have to be a story of both sides, in the last 20 years also we have seen the taliban have learnt the art or at least paid attention to the art of diplomacy and making linkages with china, they have flown to all sorts of destinations and it is no wonder that people in china had started talking in positive terms and the taliban are keen to make good linkages with around and india. the west will come back to recognising some type of taliban emirate in the future, i would think, depending on their record on human rights, which is the one key aspect the west is really keen on, so the west will have to work for the future taliban ....

With saudi arabia and the united arab emirates in order to get them employed in the diplomatic pursuit of making sure the taliban understands that in order to get those people out, united states military forces are going to have to be on the ground for two, three weeks, maybe a month, who knows, but do we need an intermediary to make sure that happens? i don t know that we need an intermediary, you want to have as many points of influence assuring things as possible. one of the open questions right now is how strong the linkages are between the taliban and individuals on the ground, those negotiating in doha and those in pakistan and other tribal areas. so how they liase with the guy outside the gates of kabul airport is a question. how other countries have degrees ....
