Best Shops in Denver | Westword

2700 Walnut Street
Tran Wills has earned every bit of her entrepreneurial and activist cred over the past decade or two, starting with running the FabricLab in the mid-2000s, when she was nineteen and pregnant, and then expanding to a string of fashion-related gigs, galleries and curated shops. In 2013 she struck gold with her chic, non-toxic nail salon Base Coat, which has since grown across the nation, including several locations inside Nordstrom stores. In a sweet and maybe ironic way, Wills has now been able to reclaim elements of her former creative enterprises by opening Matriarch Mercantile in RiNo, a woman-centric boutique with a gallery devoted to the female and nonbinary muralists of Babe Walls. What goes around comes around, and we are all the luckier for it.

Why Immersive art installations can be deceiving in Denver — The Know

Salena Martinez, 24, and Luisa Storey, 22, play the bones of a creature at Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return like a marimba on Dec. 18, 2017 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The exhibit is an immersive hybrid between an art installation and a museum, and the company has another location on tape for Denver later this year. (Dylan Owens, Denver Post file)
The slow but inevitable tyranny of “immersive experiences” is back.
Yes, we’ve seen it coming. No, it’s not the end of the world. But it can be confusing. And insulting. And boring.
There’s a bandwagonesque quality to it (with apologies to Teenage Fanclub, which coined the term). Blindfolded dinners and secret bars full of wasted twentysomethings are easy to mock. But what of the half-dozen “immersive” Vincent van Gogh installations in the works nationally, including a dueling pair that announced Denver dates this spring?

Denver Museums Open Under Level Orange

2121 Children's Museum Drive
While Denver's Children's Museum, plagued by sticky-fingered kiddos, isn't exactly known as a germ-free zone during normal times, it has shifted operations to be touch-free and has implemented strict cleaning procedures in order to invite youngsters back for what so many have been missing: education and entertainment.
Social distancing has often been the norm at the Clyfford Still Museum, though mask-wearing is now required.
Leanne Goebel
1250 Bannock Street
The Clyfford Still Museum — a temple to the great abstract-expressionist, offering a rotation of exhibits and regular, smart programming — has reopened its doors to the public and will be extending its run of Still's later works through March 21. The institution also offers plenty of virtual programming for those who are not quite ready to leave their homes.

Best Denver Food and Drink Things to Do This Week

Thursday, December 24
Thursday, December 24, is a good time for everyone to either ask others for help or ask themselves what they can do for others. Either way, a good place to start is at one of three Denver Community Fridges scattered around the metro area. The functioning refrigerators are located outside and are accessible all day, every day. If you need a meal, show up and take what you need. If you can lend a hand, please donate quality food clearly marked with an expiration date and ingredients (if it's homemade); the only donations the effort can't accommodate are packages of raw meat. Donors are asked to straighten up the fridges and dispose of any food that's past its expiration date when they drop off new food. Visit the project's Instagram page and tap Info to ensure you're doing things right (and not creating more work for organizers!), then drop by one of the refrigerators outside Mutiny Information Cafe (2 South Broadway), Huckleberry Roasters (4301 Pecos Street) or Base Coat Nail Salon (2700 Walnut Street) to give or take a little bit of joy.
