Schools reopened on Monday, January 15 Some Schools in the Lower-West Akyem Municipality in the Eastern Region, are to run a shift system to ensure social distancing in the classrooms beginning today January 18. According to Mr Daniel Yeboah, Deputy Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in an interview with the GNA, classes that had more than 40 pupils would run shift to strictly observe the social distancing protocol. This is to ensure that schools with large number of students above 40 in a class, adhered to the COVID-19 protocols following President Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s announcement in his 21st COVID-19 update, which included the reopening of schools. ....
Vehicle crushes 2 to death in Lower West Akyem LISTEN DEC 21, 2020 A Kia truck has killed two persons who were travelling on a motorbike on the Tutu and Akanteng road in the Lower West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region. The truck, with registration number ER-246-15, which was alleged to have been speeding, knocked down the two persons who were on the unregistered motorbike. The rider died on the spot. The pillion rider died later at the St. Dominic Hospital at Akwatia, also in the Eastern Region. Confirming the incident, the Municipal Director for the Lower West Akyem arm of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Kwasi Addo Annor, disclosed that the driver of the truck, identified as 46-year-old Asi Agyei, tried to run away after the incident. ....
Police hunts man for beheading mother The incident occurred Monday dawn around 2:00am, according to a family source. The suspect identified as Quarcoo has, however, gone into hiding after the callous act. The cause of his action is not known. The body of the deceased – Adwoa Ayare – has been retrieved from the pool of blood by the police and deposited at the Asamankese Government hospital morgue. The Lower West Akyem Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) familiar with the incident told Starr News that the locals in collaboration with the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the suspect. ....
