Republic Day: Best Indian architectural sites through the lens of photographers

January 26, 2021 marks India's 72nd Republic Day, the day our constitution came into effect in 1950. While it may fill one with a sense of pride, and watching the parade on the television is how many Indians would begin this day; we decided to approach the most renowned photographers in the country. We asked them to share some of the most cherished clicks of gorgeous, mesmerising or simply close-to-their-hearts architectural sites of India. Indulge, appreciate and daydream...these clicks won't leave your mind easily.
Raghu Rai
Raghu Rai started photography by chance in 1965, at the age of 23. It is his ability to capture moments juxtaposed against iconic backdrops that make his work popular all across the globe. In 1972, Rai was honoured with the Padmashree—the first ever to be awarded to a photographer. His works have been presented in Europe, America and Asia; these have also won him several international accolades—Officer des Arts et des Letters by the French Government and Master of Photojournalism by Lucie Foundation, USA in 2018. He also became the laureate of the first edition of the Académie des beaux-arts Photography Award—William Klein. Rai has produced more than 55 picture books capturing various subjects, themes and people of India, and has done an extensive photo documentation of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy and its continuing effects on the lives of gas victims.
