(Reuters) - Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine's western region of Lviv and the northwestern region of Volyn, hitting a number of buildings, wounding people and forcing evacuations, officials said.
Russia attacked civilian sites across Ukraine in the early hours of Aug. 15, killing at least four civilians and destroying kindergartens, sports facilities, supermarkets, and private residences.
In the western region of Lviv, on the border with Poland, residential buildings and other civilian structures were damaged by missile debris
After seeing the damage inflicted on his hometown of Lviv by a devastating Russian missile strike on Aug. 15, Ukrainian rock legend and former MP Svyatoslav Vakarchuk said the actions demonstrate the “vile and cynical” nature of the enemy.
Andriy Sadovyi, mayor of Lviv, said air defense systems shot down "many missiles" but residential buildings were still hit in the attack.
