Many Bay County teachers, staff and students weren’t wearing masks on the first day of school, despite the district’s last-minute decision to issue a mask requirement for employees and visitors over the weekend.
Children must be 4 years old, on or before Sept. 1, 2021. Space is limited, but applications are constantly opened and new students are constantly being brought in. The pre-K program offers a 3-hour and 15-minute free morning program daily. They also have an Enrichment Program for $60 per week. With the Enrichment Program and the free VPK program, hours run about 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Jennifer Lathem-Walters, the VPK and ESE pre-K coordinator, said pre-K is an important time for young children and their educational growth. "I believe the importance for us in pre-K is for us to prepare children to start kindergarten and ready to learn," Lathem-Walters said. "It's our mission to ensure all children are intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically ready to start school."
