'Foul-mouthed, disrespecful' Parlade slammed for calling senators 'stupid'

Senator Joel Villanueva had this to say Friday, April 23, after Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade, Jr. called lawmakers “stupid” for pushing to defund the government’s anti-insurgency task force over its red-tagging and profiling of community pantry volunteers.

“We’ll not stoop down to this level of pettiness. Name-calling will not put food on anyone’s table,” he said on Twitter.
The Senate, he said, has the responsibility to ensure that government funds the peoples’ money are being spent for public interest.
Villanueva pitched for the defundng of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), after Parlade, its spokesperson, likened Ana Patricia Non to “Satan’s apple”, in an attempt to justify their claim that organizers of community pantries are linked to communist rebels. ....

DILG-Davao warns of community pantries with different agenda

LOCAL authorities advised the public to be wary against community pantries that are being used for politics and other hidden agenda.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Davao Director Alex Roldan said in a press conference on Thursday, April 22, that with the continuous pop-up of community pantries around Davao City, there is a need for organizers to coordinate with the local government unit (LGU).
Roldan said they are not opposing the initiative of various groups in establishing their own community pantry, as its intention is to help those who are in need.
There have been community pantries that were formed by various sectors in Davao City and some parts of the region after being inspired by the Maginhawa Community Pantry in Quezon City. ....

Maginhawa Community Pantry resumes operations

Ana Patricia Non, the proponent of the pantry that inspired more than 300 community pantries in the country, opened it again after securing a team that would ensure their safety.
“Gusto po namin sana na mag-focus tayo sa community pantry. Mas marami naman pong sumusuporta kesa nambabatikos and ayaw ko po ibuhos yung energy ko sa mga taong hindi nakakaintindi (We want people to focus on the community pantry. There are more people who are supportive than those who criticize. And I don’t want to pour all my energy to those people who cannot understand),” Non told reporters as she reopened the pantry. ....

Sinas orders probe vs cops behind profiling, red-tagging of community pantry organizers

Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Wednesday, April 21, an investigation on all policemen involved in the profiling of organizers of community pantries, as well as those police personnel who are using official police social media accounts in sharing memes or other posts that red-tags those who initiate or supervise them.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ronnie Olay said it was the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) which was attend to the complaints of organizers of profiling while the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) was directed to look into social media posts against community pantries using PNP social media accounts, including those at the police station level. ....
