MUMBAI: The HSC (Class XII) and SSC (Class X) board examinations in Maharashtra have been postponed to May and June respectively, school education minister, Varsha Gaikwad announced on Monday.
Gaikwad made the announcement after consultation with state chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray. In a video message, Gaikwad said, "Covid-19 cases have been on the rise for the past few days. There has been stress about preparing for the exams and the pandemic affecting the health of the stakeholders. The safety of the stakeholders is our utmost priority and hence have decided to postpone the board exams. The SSC exam is likely to be conducted in June and the HSC exams could be scheduled at the end of May so that a student's higher education is not impacted." The HSC and SSC exams were slated to begin on April 23 and 29.
