A special city commission meeting on July 31 will address the losing bidder's appeal of protest denial.

Triggered by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, cities across the United States collectively saw a 30% increase in homicides between 2019 and 2020. That percentage was twice as high in Toledo, where poverty rates – closely linked to violent crime – are more than double the national average. Toledo saw 61 homicides in 2020,

"Unless the administration allows people that are to be doing what they do to do, it'll be another six months and it'll be someone else," Cerssandra McPherson said.

The Mayor's Office on Neighborhood Safety and Engagement will focus on violence reduction in Toledo and will be led by Malcolm Cunningham.

MONSE will play a critical role in developing and implementing a public safety plan with a focus on community engagement, city leaders said.
