Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) said the R127 million newly constructed tug boat jetty at Durban harbour is part of a plan to position the Durban port as an international container hub.
Transnet is constructing a bypass road to ease the heavy congestion of trucks moving to and from Durban’s port after infrastructure was damaged by the April floods.
The construction activities commenced in May 2021 however, the project was awarded in February 2021 which WBHO Construction (Pty) Ltd, was the successful bidder to execute the expansion.
Construction of a new tug jetty has started at Durban Port after WBHO Construction was awarded the tender, Transnet announced on Monday.
