Despite his massive victory during the Presidential Election, voters rejected the NPP in the urban settlements in three consecutive local government elections. The party also lost mayoral election in Banjul, the capital city.
The statement reads: “The United Democratic Party completed the selection of candidates for the positions of Mayor of Banjul and Kanifing Municipal Council and the Chairpersons of the six regional Area Councils.
On Saturday, Gambians across the country will go to the polls to elect their candidates to run the day-to-day affairs of our local government councils. This is expected to be a tight race between the ruling party and the leading opposition UDP.
