Violent holiday weekend. so much so that the seattle city council this very week pressed police on the issue. both of the shootings were in broad daylight in neighborhoods filled with kids and schools, leaving block after block filled with locked homes and very worried families. i m worrying what the heck is going on in the city. everybody s getting gun happy in this town. it s just crazy. it s two shootings within a matter of 20 minutes. reporter: neal karlinsky, abc news, seattle. and that story does make a great point. you think of seattle. you think of a very peaceful, quiet, largely crime-free city here. but the deaths yesterday now bring the total of homicides for the year to 21. that matches the total from all of 2011. so not even halfway into 2012 and they ve already matched last year s total. and also, just to bring you up to date. four victims at the cafe and then that one woman in the car and then the gunman took his own life. they say that that cafe was kind of li ....
Last year i believe they only had 21 murders all year. and so far, five months into the year, almost six months into the year, already matched that total from last year. that s scary. an unusual community for that kind of violence there. and the building where that shooting happened was kind of like a hangout for artists and the cafe was kind of like a performance space area. so i don t know whether he was targeting members of that particular community or whether it was just purely random. cops hope they will get some more answers later today as this investigation continues. we ll see. we all want to know the motive into that. egregious. staying on the west coast, a scary incident outside a high school in southern california. it happened in a crosswalk. ten people were injured, three of them critically, when a pickup truck crashed into them. most of those who were injured were students. the driver who s also a student reportedly ran a red light before hitting those pedestrians, r ....
