The Indian Army today released a dozen militants in Manipur's Itham village after being surrounded by a women-led mob of over 1,200 people.
The Indian Army was forced to release 12 Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) militants who were apprehended during an operation in Manipur's Itham village after a standoff with a women-led mob of 1,500 people.
An official release from Defence PRO stated that a mob of approximately 1200-1500, led by women and the local leader immediately surrounded the target area and prevented Security Forces from continuing with the operation, despite repeated appeals, to the aggressive mob, as per law. However, it did not yield any positive results.
A gathering of 1,200-1,500 people led a standoff against the Army demanding that 12 captured men be handed over.
The Spear Corps of the Indian Army were forced to handover 12 insurgents they had arrested on Saturday morning after they came face to face with a mob of 1200-1500 led by women. The development comes amid the unrest in Manipur from one of the state's villages.
