The state government's Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has sought details from seven cantonment boards, including Pune and Khadki, about plots that can be leased or used commercially after the proposed merger of civil areas with their neighbouring corporations. The DMA has also told the cantonments to collate information about civic facilities, infrastructure, number of serving and retired employees, financial status and citizens' views on the merger plans.

"The directorate will forward its final recommendation on the merger to the state government after clarity on these issues and the state would communicate it to the Ministry of Defence," an official from the directorate of municipal administration (DMA) told TOI.
