The topics ranged from long-standing issues like affordable housing and parking, to short-term rental regulations, when it’s OK to allow large-scale events back to Lake Placid, and what the candidates felt they could do for young people. The candidates include incumbent Scott Monroe and newcomers Marc Galvin, Colin Hayes and Jacquelyn “Jackie” Kelly. All four are running on independent party lines: Monroe on the Common Sense party line, Galvin and Kelly on the Teamwork party line, and Hayes on the A New Vision party line. ....

To the editor: Lake Placid is known for being one of the original travel destinations with a community rooted in sports. Personally, I’ve spent the last three decades growing a business that is based around the heart and soul of Lake Placid. Our village deserves officials that will support and foster a community that cares about locals and visitors. I’ve gotten to know Art over the last 10 years while on the North Elba Half Marathon Committee. In 2012 Art, with other locals including Marc Galvin, stepped up to save the race, a staple of the community since its organization in the 1970s. For a few years Art was up with me at 4 a.m. to put traffic cones out on the course. Without Art, this event with its 40-year history would’ve been lost. ....
