COVID-19 cases in Marion County have dropped for two consecutive weeks, though the weekly count is still higher than during the summer delta surge.
For the week ending Dec. 23, Florida COVID-19 cases rose 324% to over 125,000. Over 360 of those cases are from Marion County.
The number of weekly COVID-19 cases hit a new record in area schools, with 870 students and employees testing positive during the week of Jan. 8-14
A new weekly record of 5,536 COVID-19 cases were reported for Marion County on Friday. That's a 72% increase over last year's record of 3,228 cases.
Forecasters are expecting similar trends elsewhere in the country but the ongoing strain on some hospitals continues.
