It was 55 years ago this very day, a Sunday as I recall, when
Dearly Beloved and I stood before an Army chaplain,
Maj. Paul Hopkins, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Forest Glen Chapel and pledged to cherish, honor, obey – and all that stuff – each other for the rest of our lives.
Of course, I’m writing this a few days ahead of time, so I’m assuming we’ll still be together by the time Saturday rolls around and this newspaper winds up in your hands. I suspect we probably will be. As I’ve told her many times, we’re rapidly coming up on the time when we’re going to have to decide if we want this to be a permanent arrangement or not. ....
