Dibrugarh: As floodwaters recede, massive erosion by the Brahmaputra has been witnessed in Mohanaghat area of Dibrugarh over the last couple of days.
Over 4 lakh people across nine districts in Assam are affected by floods, with water levels starting to recede. Three people have died and 1,118 villages are under water.
Massive erosion was detected on the banks of the Warriyang Bung river, one of the Kameng's tributaries, by a special team tracking the river's route upstream.
Sonowal said that Assam Government has taken up special plans to curb large scale erosion in Majuli and protect the river island district. He also stated that Minister Pijush Hazarika has already given directions to his department to implement the planned measures at the earliest.
