A senior judge has thrown out a “scandalous” attempt by Sinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly to claim he should be compensated by a Belfast Telegraph columnist who said that the Sinn Féin MLA shot a prison warder in the head.
The case related two two radio interviews in which journalist Malachi O’Doherty had stated Mr Kelly had shot a prison officer during the Maze escape.
The judge awarded journalist Malachi O’Doherty ‘both the costs of this application and the costs of the action on an indemnity basis’.
