New 'Stop Battery Fires' campaign reveals nearly half of householders are not aware of fire risks that result from failing to dispose of batteries safely
Material Focus has launched a £2.5 million fund to support organisations looking to test methods of collecting unwanted electricals.
Batteries thrown in household rubbish bins cause around 700 fires a year in dustcarts and waste-processing centres, local authorities have said.
Research by Material Focus found that around 1.3 million single-use e-cigarettes are thrown away in the UK every week.
Environmental and health groups have today (24 November) called on the government to ban the sale of single-use e-cigarettes in an open letter to the environment and health secretaries.
