The Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville must revise policies and pay $80,000 after a student claimed the school silenced her conservative views.
Maggie DeJong, a former arts therapy student, reached the hefty settlement with the Southern Illinois University this week, her Alliance Defending Freedom lawyers said.
Maggie R. DeJong was a grad student in art therapy when, according to a suit she filed last year, SIUE used the 'no contact' order to muzzle her speech and effectively ban her from classes.
"Universities cannot censor students because of their religious or political views," Alliance Defending Freedom legal counsel Mathew Hoffmann told Newsweek.
