Every one of the more than four dozen Prince George volunteer firefighters who travelled south to help fight the worst forest fires in B.C. history did so for one reason. It’s what they do. They are volunteers. And they are firefighters. Put the two together and, when the request for help went out, local firefighters didn’t need to be asked twice. “Our first call came in the Friday of the August long weekend, it came in about noon, and our guys were ready to go pretty much by that night,” said Melanie Perrin, fire services coordinator with the Fraser-Fort George Regional District.
