The second Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer to helm the poll panel after T S Krishnamurthy in 2004, as the new CEC - Chandra will wrap up this round of elections and oversee assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

Chandra has taken over from retired IAS officer Sunil Arora who demitted office as CEC on 12th April after completion of his tenure.
Sushil Chandra on Tuesday today took charge as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner of India- an office he will hold until May 14, 2022.
