Delhi peak winter demand at record high as mercury dips

Data from the State Load Dispatch Centre showed peak demand at 5,701 MW at 10:50 AM on Friday, breaking the previous record on Wednesday of 5,611 MW. Peak power demand during winter months till last year was 5526 MW, recorded on January 6. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power DDL) said it met the all-time highest winter peak power demand for its service at 1,774 MW on Friday.

Mercury Dips: Mercury dips below 15C - Yellow alert in 30 districts | Hyderabad News

Thirty of 33 districts in the state recorded minimum temperatures below 15C on Tuesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for various districts. Khammam, Suryapet, and Wanaparthy are three districts which were warmer and had minimum temperatures over 15C. These low temperatures come as a surprise since the state saw high temperatures owing to South east monsoon and Cyclone Michaung over the last month. It is only this week that the temperatures have dipped. Adilabad, Nirmal, Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Warangal, Jayshankar Bhpalpally, Medak, Sanagreddy, Vikarabad, Ranagreddy, Malkajgiri have been placed under a yellow alert experiencing minimum temperatures between 11C-15C.

With the air quality index (AQI) at 249 Delhi's air remained in the poor category on Monday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
The temperature also dipped in the national capital marking a return of the cold conditions. The weather department has predicted a further drop in the temperatures soon.
Delhi's Lodhi Road, Pusa Road, Delhi University, Airport Road, Mathura Road and Delhi IIT recorded the air quality in the 'poor' category.
