Telegram got a major boost in terms of new users in the month of January after WhatsApp, the current dominating messaging platform received a lot of criticism for introducing new privacy policy. While the Facebook-owned platform delayed the deadline for new privacy policy to set in till May 15, other applications such as Telegram and Signal have gained traction in the first month of 2021.
A recent analysis by Sensor Tower, a provider of market intelligence and insights for the global app economy, suggests that Telegram was the most downloaded non-gaming app worldwide for January 2021 with more than 63 million installs. Compared to last year’s figures of January 2020, the app has registered 3.8 times more downloads this year. India registered the maximum number of Telegram installs at 24%, followed by Indonesia at 10%. ....

KARACHI:
Pakistan has decided to develop a world-class social networking app with state-of-the-art security features, which will include all modern communication features including messages, voice calls and videos.
It will be developed by the Ministry of Information Technology and IT experts.
The government has started consultations for the purpose and after approval from the federal cabinet, work on the project will start.

Honk messaging app launched with disappearing chats features

Honk is a new messaging app that wants to do what WhatsApp did to text messaging, by introducing real-time messaging. The app promises an in-the-moment messaging experience, with messages being shown to the other person as you type. The app is currently only available for iOS users and will soon be made available for Android also. Also Read - WhatsApp might soon allow for easy chat transfer between iOS, Android
The app does not have a send button and limits the messages to 160 characters. To recall, SMSes also have a size of about 160 characters. Once a user hits the 160 character limit, they need to tap the refresh button to start from scratch. Due to its real-time approach, the Honk disappearing chats has no chat history.
