Valeria, his daughter, is heartbreaking. it should also piss us all off. if i were president today and it should spur us to action. if i were president today, i would sign an executive order that would get rid of trump s zero tolerance policy and the remain in mexico policy and the metering policy. this metering policy is what prompted oscar and valeria to make that risky swim across the river. they had been playing games with people come and trying to seek asylum. oscar and valeria went to a port of entry, and they were denied to make an asylum claim. so they got frustrated and they tried to cross the river, and they died because of that. on day 1. sorry. on day 1 i would do an executive order that would address metering. and i would follow that up in the first 100 days with immigration reform that would put undocumented immigrants, as long as they haven t committed a serious prime krooim on a path ....

With this many people coming in, how do you process everyone? we need to do several things. number one, we need to honor their asylum claims. the reason why oscar martinez and his daughter valeria ended up trying to cross that river is because this administration is playing games, something called metering. people used to be allowed at a port of entry to make their claims for asylum. now they re not being allowed to. so they got desperate, tried to cross the river, and drowned. we need to make sure, instead of building facilities like this that cost so much money in these tents behind us, we need to put money into finding the relatives of these children, reuniting families or placing them with relatives that already live in the united states, or other caregivers, quickly vetting them and putting them in those homes, instead of putting them in facilities like this. and we need an immigration judiciary, a court system that has more judges and more support staff, so they can get through ....

I ve been in the u.s. for six days and i ve never been offered a shower. and that s just the start of it. one 12-year-old boy said i m hungry here at clint all the time. i am so hungry that i ve woken up in the middle of the night with hunger. sometimes at other hours. i am too scared to ask the officials here for any more food, even though there is not enough food here for me. that testimony is from migrants held here in the united states. now i want to turn to some of the migrants back in mexico. joining me now is nbc news correspondent gabe gutierrez live from juarez, mexico. many families are being forced to wait here due to the remain in mexico policy. tell me about their waits and their options. reporter: hi, ali. well, there is quite a bottleneck here. and there are actually two types of immigrants that are waiting here in juarez, mexico. the first type are those that are part of that policeful known as metering where they are waiting for months at a time to ....

Zero-tolerance policy, the remain in mexico policy, and the metering policy. this metering policy is basically what prompted oscar and valeria to make that risky swim across the river. they have been playing games with people who are coming and trying to seek asylum at our ports of entry. oscar and valeria went to a port of entry and then they were denied an ability to make asylum claim so they got frustrated and tried to cross the river and died because of that. on day one, sorry. on day one, i would do that executive order that would address metering and follow that up in my first 100 days with immigration reform that would honor asylum claims, put undocumented immigrants as long as they haven t committed a serious crime on a pathway to citizenship and we d get to the root cause of the issue which is we need a marshal plan for honduras and guatemala and el salvador so that people can find safety and opportunity at home instead of coming to the united states to seek it. senator ....
