Governor Kathy Hochul today welcomed home the crew of 20 New York State wildland firefighters led by Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers after a two-week assignment fighting the KNP Complex Fire in California.
It was a particularly special solar event as the annular eclipse, which refers to the ring of the sun that became visible around the moon for a few moments, won't happen again for another several years.
A rare astronomical event, called the Annular Solar Eclipse, took place in 2012 over parts of Asia and North America. It will happen again this year, on June 10. The sun will turn briefly into a blazing ring of fire.
