Teenager drowns in Squannacook River in Groton The 17-year-old boy did not resurface after swimming underwater. A 17-year-old male drowned in the Squannacook River in Groton this afternoon, officials confirmed. The Groton Police Department and Middlesex DA’s Office have started an open investigation but as of Wednesday night, have not identified the teen. According to authorities, the drowning occurred around 3:19 p.m. in the Bertozzi Wildlife Management Area in Groton when a group of teenagers were jumping into the river using a rope swing. Police reported while the teenagers were trying to cross the river, one boy swam underwater.

Wicked Local Despite the acts of two good samaritans, a local man died of injures incurred during a single motor-vehicle crash on Wednesday, April 14. According to Billerica police, the victim of the crash was identified as William Collins, 61, of North Billerica. "At this time the single-car collision does not appear to involve any foul play," Deputy Chief Roy Frost wrote on the department's website on Wednesday. The specific cause of the collision is being investigated by Billerica police with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Middlesex DA Office, Frost added. As of Thursday, April 15, Frost told the Billerica Minuteman there were no new developments to the case.
