The wireless provider T-Mobile on Tuesday unveiled plans to buy the large part of competing U.S. Cellular in a $4.4 billion deal which will give T-Mobile a further 4 million customers.

T-Mobile agreed to pay $4.4 billion for most of U.S. Cellular's wireless operations, the companies announced Tuesday, giving T-Mobile a larger rural footprint.
U.S. Cellular customers will gain access to its 5G network, giving them better coverage and speed, T-Mobile said in a statement.
T-Mobile is buying U.S. Cellular's wireless operations and certain spectrum assets in a deal valued at $4.4 billion, and further consolidating the industry.
