A car wash employee has told a jury he was left very tired, hungry and with just £20 in his first pay packet as he worked nine days in a row for a Carlisle business at the centre of modern slavery allegations. At the city’s crown court today, a second Romanian national who was employed at Shiny on Warwick Road, during early 2017, gave evidence during the trial of three men who deny alleged involvement in forced labour and arranging for people to come to the UK with a view to their being exploited. The man spoke of paying £130 for his journey from Eastern Europe to England.
