New Delhi: The elections to the assemblies of Kerala and Tamil Nadu took place following COVID-19 health protocol and involving lakhs of personnel on Tuesday, April 6.
In two states today was phase three of the assembly election, which also meant the final phase in Assam. Bengal, on day three, saw significant violence across the three districts where polling took place.

Voter turnout crossed 60 per cent in Tamil Nadu by evening as polling continued peacefully with key leaders, including AIADMK’s K Palaniswami, O Panneerselvam and DMK chief MK Stalin, exercising their franchise for the April 6 assembly polls on Tuesday.
Sporadic, poll related minor incidents were, however, reported from a couple of places though there were no major untoward incidents.
Till 5 pm, the polling was 63.60 per cent, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters. Namakkal saw the highest of 70.79 per cent and Tirunelveli the lowest with 50.05 per cent.

Impressive turnout in high-stakes assembly polls, several clashes reported


A high voter turnout was recorded in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry assembly elections on Tuesday, with the Congress along with its allies like the DMK locked in a keen contest to regain turf in South India.
In Kerala, where the Left is hoping to beat anti-incumbency to retain power, a feat unseen in four decades, while the BJP is making efforts to build inroads, nearly 74 percent polling was recorded till 7 PM. There was 63.47 percent voting in Tamil Nadu for 234 assembly constituencies and 77.90 percent in Puducherry till 5 PM.
The three-phase assembly election culminated in Assam with nearly 79 percent polling in the final round in the state where the ruling BJP is battling the Congress-led alliance to retain power, while the trend of high turnout and violence during polling continued in West Bengal as the ruling Trinamool Congress, the BJP and the Left-Congress alliance put up an intense fight in the high-stakes contest.
