Procurement rules relaxed for COVID-19 relief till September 30

New Delhi [India], May 14 (ANI): Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday informed that the government has exempted the public procurement of supplies required for containment of the COVID-19 global pandemic from the applicability of Public Procurement.
The order issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade said that the aforesaid exemption shall be applicable till September 30.
"The Government of India has exempted the public procurement of supplies required for containment of COVID-19 global pandemic from the applicability of Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017. The order issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry says that the aforesaid exemption shall be applicable till 30.09.2021," the press release read. With more States putting restrictions to curb the rising Covid-19 cases, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Friday said it is going to closely monitor issues involving internal trade, manufacturing, delivery and logistics of essential commodities in the country.
‘State restrictions’
“The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has decided to monitor the status of transportation and delivery of goods, manufacturing, delivery of essential commodities to common man and the difficulties being faced by various stakeholders due to current restrictions imposed by various States/UTs in view of the surge of Covid-19 cases,” an official statement said.

India’s merchandise exports increased from $21.49 billion in March, 2020 to $34.45 billion in March 2021, registering a 60.29 per cent growth.
In rupee terms, India's merchandise exports stood at Rs 2.5 lakh crore in March 2021, as compared to Rs 1.59 lakh crore in March 2020, with a positive growth of 56.93 per cent.
Press release by the Ministry of Commerce and trade also declared details regarding services sector imports and exports.
As per the latest press release by RBI dated 15 April 2021, imports in February 2021 were $10.64 billion with a negative growth of 4.10 per cent compared to February 2020. Imports increased to $10.84 billion in March 2021.

Piyush Goyal Inaugurates Electronic Marketplace e-SANTA For Aquaculture, To Boost Farmer Incomes And Exports

Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday (13 April) virtually inaugurated Electronic Solution for Augmenting NaCSA farmers' Trade in Aquaculture (e-SANTA), an electronic marketplace providing a platform to connect aqua farmers and the buyers.
It will enable the farmers to get a better price and the exporters to directly purchase quality products from the farmers enhancing traceability, a key factor in international trade.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Goyal said that e-SANTA will raise income, lifestyle, self-reliance, quality levels, traceability, and provide new options for our aqua farmers.

Commerce ministry organises competition for designing new street vending carts to cope with COVID-19 challenges

New Delhi [India], March 13 (ANI): The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, organised a competition for designing Covid-19 Street Vending Cart through new and cost-effective cart models.
The objective of the competition was to design a new and cost-effective solution for a modern vending cart to cope with the recent challenges emerging due to COVID-19, the ministry said in a statement.
The competition took place from December 22, 2020, to February 5, 2021.
The ministry said that NID Ahmedabad coordinated with other NIDs and conducted a Design Hackathon for designing new carts to cope with the recent challenges emerging due to COVID-19, adding that after selection, it is also proposed to offer these models on a mass scale to street vendors.

The NIDs students in Ahmedabad, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana and Madhya Pradeshtook part in it from 22.12.2020 to 05.02.2021.
