Three brave volunteers have had their long locks chopped in a bid to raise vital funds to pay for cancer treatment for a family friend. Fifteen-year-old Amy Groves and her younger sister Evie, who is 10, together with Amy’s godmother Fay Matthews-Jones faced the scissors on Tuesday evening to boost the fundraising campaign of Warrington Guardian columnist Mel O’Neill, who has been battling cancer for the past 10 years and needs £1,200 for each dose of her medication. Terry McAlinden, known as Miss Mac, died aged 43 after a 'fiercely fought' battle with cancer. She was a teacher at Birchwood High for more than 17 years and held a key role as a head of year for more than 10 years. The school community came together with a fitting tribute to their 'inspirational' colleague and friend, while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. A spokesperson for Birchwood High School said: "She would have loved the day and would have thrown herself into it hook, line and sinker, and we are sure that she was smiling down on us as the day went brilliantly.
