Bend City Councilors appointed a mental health counselor and a victim advocate to two vacant council seats

The council's appointments come after two members suddenly left their positions in May for varying reasons.

Two new Bend city councilors were appointed Thursday, filling the vacancies left from the resignations of Sally Russell and Rita Schenkelberg. According to a City of Bend news release: Stephen Sehgal, who has worked as a Victim Advocate for Deschutes County District Attorney's Office since 2019, volunteers on the District Attorney Office's Diversity Equity and Inclusion team and is a member of the City's Human Right and Equity Commission.
