Hi everyone. My dad was a model engineer subscriber, enthusiast and retired design engineer. Sadly he past away in January this year. He eft all of his possessions to my mum. She's asked me to help clear out his workshop but we're really worried about under-valuing some his stuff and don't want people just to try and buy cheap to sell on and profit from the situation. The original instructions merely suggest a zinc based alloy, but the foundry have little call for such and so proposed the bronze. I'll let you know how I get on. Many thanks. Depends on what else they have available. Cast iron or brass would be fine too and both easier to machine. You are lucky these days to find a foundry that will give you the time of day on small jobs. Lucky to find a foundry at all most places...
A lot of justified support above for a spotting 'scope to meet your needs. A tripod is essential and the 'scope needn't cost a fortune. At the Midlands ME exhibitions some years ago, there was often a stand run by a Chinese (?) lady who sold various optical devices. I think I paid GBP70 for one of her spotting scopes with tripod and coated lenses. Its performance is impressive even if the focus control knob is a little imprecise.
