Abdullah: Talks Should Focus on Ceasefire, Violence Reduction
Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council of National Reconciliation, on Thursday said that he has instructed the peace negotiating team representing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the talks with the Taliban to focus on a ceasefire and a reduction in violence.
Abdullah also hailed efforts made by the republic side for talks on peace.
“In a video call with the Republic s Negotiation Team in Doha, I listened to their report, the progress they have made, and the challenges they face. I praised the team for their tireless efforts, and hard work for peace. I instructed them to continue their efforts for peace,” tweeted Abdullah. ....

Koofi Sees No Consensus within Republic on Future Govt
Peace negotiator Fawzia Koofi on Friday said she sees no consensus within the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the future government that will be agreed upon as part of a peace deal when negotiations move forward. 
Based on a list of the demands of both sides’ negotiators, the Taliban is insisting on the establishment of an Islamic system while the Afghan Republic team is stressing on preserving the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan after a possible deal. 
The Afghan Republic and the Taliban negotiators are expected to resume the peace negotiations in Doha on Jan. 5.  ....

Taliban want Afghan rulers to be chosen by council


Shura-ye Ahl-i Hal-u-Aqd, an Afghan government negotiater suggested.
In an interview with 1TV, Mohammad Amin Ahmadi said that the Taliban don’t want the current political system which is preferred by the majority of the Afghan people.
He also said that the Taliban have not clearly expressed commitment to the principles equal rights of citizens irrespective of their religion or gender.
This comes as Afghan government and Taliban negotiators have agreed on rules and procedures for peace talks and have taken a pause for internal consultations on the agenda.
The negotiations are expected to resume on January 5.
Despite the talks, violence levels remain high. ....
