Misguided, it may have been under funded or whatever you want to say about it. but a lot of them thought that what they got, and what they left with were two different things. they thought things were better. i don t know, one person that i covered, whoever thought things were great, whoever thought the mission was accomplished. in fact i heard just the opposite. i heard mostly from generals who said, washington was not giving them enough. they would ask for some and then get half that number. and on the other side, they would ask for even more money for the state department, money for non military ways to build up the country, to do the counterintelligence-y, and that was underfunded to the level that was required. it was always something. less more politically palatable. and so i m not arguing that more should have been done. or that left should have been done. i m just stating that it s not, i think it s disingenuous in too easy to say, that generals a belong to us all of a long. th ....
