A bridge across the Yellowstone River in Montana, USA, collapsed, and multiple cars of a freight train carrying dangerous substances on the bridge fell into the rushing water below. Montana Railroad said the overboard carriages contained asphalt and molten sulfur, though there were no casualties in the accident. Molten sulfur can cause severe thermal burns when exposed to the human body and form toxic and flammable gases when it reacts with hydrocarbons, the core compounds of fossil fuels. Officials shut down drinking water intakes downstream while assessing the danger.
