The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia has decided not to reopen its Yarmouth location, ending an 18-year effort to expand exhibitions beyond the main gallery in downtown Halifax.
Officials with the gallery said the closure will begin on Feb. 1 while the restoration takes place 'to ensure public safety and the safety of the permanent collection.'
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in downtown Halifax will close its doors to the public on Thursday until the spring.
Before he became known as being a Group of Seven painter, Arthur Lismer lived in Halifax for three years. For part of that time, he documented wartime Halifax as an artist for the Canadian War Memorials Fund.
