To the Editor; I write to express my concern that the water quality, fisheries and outdoor economy of the Katahdin Region are once again at risk of permanent degradation. Canada-based Wolfden Resources Corporation has submitted a second application to the Land Use Planning Commission to allow a metallic mineral mine at Pickett Mountain near Patten, Baxter State Park, and Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
A recent petition put the Pickett Mountain mining project up for a second Mt. Chase town vote on a non-binding resolution in support of the project.
