"The ridership of the MRT-3 has improved...Before the pandemic, [it was just] 260,000. And although there was a pandemic, the ridership reached 280,000. And now, the MRT-3 can board 300,000 safely," Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade was quoted as saying.
The number of newly overhauled Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) train cars now stands at 50 with 22 more scheduled, the train management said Friday.
"We want to serve as many passengers as possible, that's why we really prepared for this scenario where more passengers can be served by MRT-3. All of that is an effect of our extensive rehabilitation, which we all upgraded. of subsystems-from tracks, power, signaling, our wagons, including the MRT-3 facilities," he said.
Aside from the free rides given by the MRT-3, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board's service contracting program is also set to resume in April.
