The medical board of Delhi’s LNJP Hospital informed the Court that it had rejected the request for termination, given the advanced stage of pregnancy.
The court said that with advancement in technology, a lot of things can be detected at the foetal stage and can the parents say that they will only have 'perfect children'.

The Court held that in cases where minors seek termination of their pregnancy, Registered Medical Practitioners need not disclose the identity of the minor to police, even though the same is required under the POCSO Act.
Justice Yashwant Varma said that though the MTP Act does not sanction termination of pregnancy after 24 weeks, courts can use their extraordinary powers in exceptional cases.
These rules have been enacted under Section 6 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act ('MTP'), 1971
