HYDERABAD:
Although blessed with the Indus River, lakes, mountain streams and subsoil water, Sindh and its people continue to face myriads of water-related problems, ranging from shortage of water supply to contamination.
Keeping this in view, the provincial government embarked upon the gigantic task of formulating an all-encompassing water policy, covering urban to rural water supply and drainage, over three years ago.
However, questions still remain as to how comprehensive and enforceable the policy is going to be as a team of experts collects suggestions and ideas with the stated aim of incorporating them in the policy. In this regard a consultative session with the field journalists was held in Hyderabad at the office of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA) on Thursday. ....

MPAs demand rescinding results of 'out-of-syllabus' MDCAT

Lawmakers in the Sindh Assembly demanded on Wednesday that the results of the MDCAT (Medical and Dental Colleges’ Admission Test) recently held by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) should be rescinded as questions of the pre-entry examination were “out of syllabus”, and the province as per the constitution should again be authorised to conduct the test, instead.
The concerned MPAs were speaking on an adjournment motion of a lawmaker of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party Marvi Faseeh, on the recent controversy surrounding the MDCAT conducted by the PMC, which allegedly affected Sindh-based students in a large number who wanted to get admissions to medical colleges. ....

PA passes bill to raise parliamentary secretaries’ salaries and allowances

The Provincial Assembly of Sindh on Thursday passed a bill to increase the salaries, allowances and other privileges available to the parliamentary secretaries in the House.
Five lawmakers of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are working as parliamentary secretaries for the provincial government’s departments of local government, food, law, irrigation and Zakat & Ushr.
After the passage of the Sindh Parliamentary Secretaries (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill 2021, each of the five lawmakers will receive a special allowance of Rs50,000 and a sumptuary allowance of Rs10,000 every month. ....
