GUSA initiative pushes for textbook affordability and accessibility The GUSA Senate is creating a subcommittee for book affordability and accessibility to assist students with accessing textbooks. The project seeks to lower the barrier low and middle-income students face each semester when purchasing textbooks and class materials. The subcommittee, led by Sen. Only 26 Georgetown students are taking a class on Indigenous people this semester. Of the over 6,000 undergraduates attending Georgetown, that’s only four thousandths of a percent. That’s how many students are enrolled in PHIL 156, Intro to Indigenous Philosophy, the lone three-credit course on Indigeneity being offered this semester. Sure, other professors could bring in discussions about Indigenous people into their curriculum—but they aren’t required to. Whitney Maddox leaves Georgetown with a lasting impact  Whitney Maddox (G’10, ’19), the Center for Social Justice’s (CSJ) Assistant Director of Leadership Development and Racial Justice Initiatives, has departed Georgetown for a new position as NPR’s Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) manager beginning Feb 1. Whether a student, intern, or faculty member, Maddox has become a beloved figure in Georgetown’s community for working to elevate the voices and issues of BIPOC students.
