Exclusive Breastfeeding Declines In Bono Region

Exclusive breastfeeding for newborns in the Bono Region has declined from 67 per cent in 2008 to 43 per cent in 2017, a Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) conducted by UNICEF in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has established.
According to the 2008 Ghana Demographic Health Survey, exclusive breastfeeding which was 67 per cent in the region dropped to 52 per cent in 2014 while the 2017 MICS showed a further decline to 43 per cent.
The Bono Regional Director of Health, Dr Kofi Amo-Kodieh, has expressed concern about this trend and wonders why despite the overwhelming benefits of good nutrition associated with exclusive breastfeeding for newborns and appropriate complementary feeding for young children, the percentage of its practice in the region is still on the decline. ....

KARACHI: A day after the visit of the Pakistan People s Party’s delegation to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan’s office to meet its leaders, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also sent its delegation to meet the leaders of its disgruntled ally that has recently shown its anger over the federal cabinet’s decision to approve the ‘controversial’ census.
A PTI delegation, headed by Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi, on Thursday visited the MQM-P’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad to meet its leaders. In the meeting, leaders of both the parties discussed the flaws in the census results in Karachi, upcoming by-polls in the province, and other related issues. ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan people’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday rejected the Cabinet decision of the federal government regarding the Census 2017, saying that it was unfortunate that the Federal Cabinet had opted to bypass the agreement of the parliamentary leaders of the Senate for correcting the highly controversial Census 2017 results through recount of population in 5% randomly selected population blocks.
“Agreement of the parliamentary leaders, which also bears the signatures of Senator Azam Swati on behalf of PTI, had made possible the passage of the 24th Amendment to the Constitution, which allows use of the provisional Census 2017 figures for delimitation of constituencies only for the general elections of 2017 and the by-elections thereof,” said member Core Committee of the PPP Taj Haider in a statement on Wednesday. ....
