The weekend of 11-13 August has emerged as the busiest single weekend in the post-Covid period for theatres across India including single screens and multiplexes.
Last weekend witnessed a record number of admissions in Indian cinemas, with over 2.1 crore moviegoers attending films such as 'Gadar 2', 'Jailer', 'OMG 2' and 'Bhola Shankar', collectively grossing over Rs 390 crore ($52 million). The Multiplex Association of India and Producers Guild of India stated that this was the highest weekend combined admissions record in the last ten years; post reopening of the cinema industry after the pandemic.
